A maize mill is one of the most profitable machines a cooperative, school or trading-centre business can own in Rwanda. Every household buys maize and cassava flour, and milling services earn money every day. But choosing the wrong mill means low output, broken parts and high electricity bills. This guide explains what a flour mill costs in Rwanda in 2026 and what to check before you buy.

How much does a maize mill cost in Rwanda?

A locally made medium-scale flour mill costs around RWF 1,500,000. For example, the A-Z URUGERO Mill mills up to 6 tonnes per day with an 11 kW, 3-phase motor (2,800 rpm) and costs RWF 1,500,000, including operator training. Imported mills of similar size usually cost more once shipping, taxes and the wait for spare parts are added.

5 things to check before you buy a flour mill

1. Capacity you really need. Count how many kilograms your customers bring per day. A 6 t/day mill suits a busy trading centre, cooperative or school.
2. Power supply. An 11 kW motor needs 3-phase electricity. If you only have single-phase power, ask for a smaller machine.
3. Crops you will mill. Maize, cassava, sorghum and other cereals: make sure the mill and screen are made for them.
4. Spare parts and repairs. Hammers, screens and bearings wear out. Buy from a supplier who keeps spare parts in Rwanda.
5. Installation and training. A correctly installed and well-used mill lasts years longer. Ask if training is included.
